The artist has handed over the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound honor winnings to the MVT, which functions to protect the United Kingdom's independent live music spots.

The star was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the previous year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the crucial part small stages had in his early career.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it wasn't for all the shows I did around the North East, and elsewhere, when I was just getting going," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to keep the scene afloat, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to support thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

The donation helped locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to issues caused by flooding, blazes and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in modernizing amenities and sound and lighting systems that positively impacted musicians and fans.

"The idea that money from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just common sense," Sam Fender has said.

"I also donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I did gymnastics when I was younger and they required new equipment," the artist told a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective gave their funds to the local youth club that supported their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group donated their award to a charity for MS after a friend was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was ample," remarked vocalist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the cherry, because we had the honor. So our winning affected the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT revealed it had rescued two local spots in south-east England, by placing them under community ownership.

One venue in that area and The Croft in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
