Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them few options but to head to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners parties.

Audiences can anticipate discovering which players will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
